I have a confession...
I Love Pinterest!
It's available for the web and for your mobile devices and is very user friendly. Because of that, new users can jump right in to using Pinterest and fall down the rabbit hole at breakneck speed!
Pinterest utilizes Web and Mobile capabilities with a similar UI design structure for both platforms. I feel this is beneficial because it promotes consistent use. I don’t need to learn where certain features and commands are located because they are in a similar spot whether I’m on the Web or the Mobile App.
Pinterest lets you create categories or “boards” where you can save or “pin” pictures, Gifs, videos or websites whose content you may be interested in, just to name a few. It's like your Bookmarks tab on your web browser but with pictures! It creates smart suggestions based on your interest and searches but not in a creepy "my phone is listening to me and sending me ads" sort of way. It allows you to locate and save multiple pins that are in the same category that have some different and interesting content. Future brides beware!!! You can plan your wedding and find amazing DIYs that will save you hundreds of dollars. It's like your own personal electronic wedding planner. Im currently loving this feature because it lets me save pins for my dream office/craft room design.
I do have a few suggestions for the user interface on Pinterest.
Currently, The “Hide” pin is included with the “Shop”, “Save” and “Share” pins and I have found myself accidently deleting suggested pins that I was actually interested in. When this happens, it affects how Pinterest chooses new pins for me. I'd suggest moving the "hide" feature so that its not in such a close proximity to the other pin commands.
Also, I've recently seen where a pin I was interested in becomes blocked by Pinterest because they feel that the website its coming from could possibly lead to spam (THANKS FOR THE LOOKOUT, BTW!). I would just suggest that we still have recommendations of safe sites that are similar to the one we were interested in or even be able to continue at our own risk. Or Just let me be able to pin the image without connecting to the questionable website.
Finally... There have been times where I end up going down the Pinterest rabbit hole. in my tumbling down, I'll see several pins I'm interested in, but since I can only choose one to click on, I lose that other pin. So can a sista get a temporary board called "Save for later" or "Quick Pins". This temporary board would delete pins after a certain amount of time set by the user (between 24 and 72 hours). This would allow me to gather interesting pins to later sort through and decide if I want to keep the pin and add it to one of my boards or just move on.
All in all, Pinterest is the best time waster app on my phone. And while there is potential to get lost in the "Pinterest Web", there are so many helpful things I have found. I have a board dedicated to college related stuff. I have found scholarship opportunities along with time management and writing tips for college students. So, it can't be all bad, right?
